View from the End Zone
3-26-2010
One of the things that I most remember from this year, similar to many years I’ve been commissioner, but I have never thought about writing, is the view from the end zone. Really, I’m being serious! At the end zone you’ll find scouts. I can name a few such Alex, Chinea, my brother Ernie, and even Rafi at times. But there are also photographers such as, Soto, coach Peniza, Gasser and even the occasional Mom and Dad who figure they can get a better photo angle. But there are also nonpartisan, fans that just seem to ask what the score is or are just strolling by and begin watching a great game of football. Now that I think about it, I don’t recall anyone ever asking me “why are you literally at the end zones all the time?”
The view of the end zone gives you the opportunity to view the whole field, the sidelines, the player’s box and etc.. You can clearly see the players, the coaches, the referees, the fans and even the occasional birds skimming through the air. I can see who’s played…..who hasn’t played, a great call and not so great call, which coach is about to get booted and which one is the iceman (doesn’t loose his cool despite that the heat index is 100 dgs.). I see fans who are reckless, but yet I also see a fan who despite his team losing by three touchdowns, gives a zebra bottle water for his thirst during a time out. I see plays that make sense and plays that just leave your head shaking. I can see an 80 yard touchdown run and I can see an 80 yard touchdown run being called back. I can also see a player walking a bit awkward and I can also see the player that is lying on the field from an injury.
The view from the end zone is unique. Who in there right mind wouldn’t want to be anyplace else during the games? I just hop to end zone to end zone through divisions. But the purpose for me is not to get the best seat of the house, root for my team (which I don’t have since I am the commish), take photos, check the scores, scout and or just simply watch the game.
The commish is there because it is our job! And that job it to maintain order, hardly ever interrupt the game, unless it is absolutely necessary and keep the players, coaches, referees and fans safe! Before anyone steps out of line and into that field, unless you are a player, head coach and referee, please keep out as we can see you from the view from the end zone.
I want to thank all you level headed coaches and also, not the so level headed coaches, as you’ve made our job extremely exciting. I also want to thank all the fans and as a reminder please don’t get on the field while a game is being played. I want to thank the referees…hey, good or bad, someone has to make the call! To all you team parents, thank you! To the board, board officials, and fellow commissioners, thanks!!! But most of all, we all know one another, it’s our last week of 2010…our hardest week…let it be played hard, fun, safe and with respect but, above all, let it be without incident!
To all……Good Luck!
We’ll be watching from the end zone,
The Commish

Dear Pee Wee Heroes,
It s been a while since I’ve written a message. In fact this is the first one this year. Pee Wee continues to grow while the economy in Puerto Rico continues to shrink, but hey, that’s why we have Pee Wee Football so we can kick back, relax, forget about the week days and enjoy every given Saturday, unless of course, you are a commissioner. Speaking of commissioners I want to thank Eva, Mabel and Mike for a great job this year. I also want to thank Marilu, our V.P., for also helping us every Saturday.
How about them spikes…..don’t our players, coaches and even the referees look awesome with those things! We have to thank Cuidad Deportiva and Mike for the spikes. I know everyone didn’t get them but honestly it was a donation and we distributed what we received.
I won’t keep you much longer. I just want to thank everyone for a very special year. So far this year no major incident has occurred and we the commissioners would like to thank the players, fans and referees for a calm season. Sure, we’ve had incidents ranging from controversial, last second, game altering calls, to absolutely blown calls, to flag me all day calls, to fans being disrespectful to referees, to coaches walking out during games and so on. But unlike previous years, every situation has been resolved in a calm and orderly fashion. We hope it will continue to be this way!
Here is the report for games to watch this Saturday! We’ll start with the most competitive division in the league. This division is so competitive that one week I actually saw the Goodyear blimp circling around this small field…..I kid you not! I also thought I saw Chris Bermen broadcasting form ESPN but it was a die hard Steeler fan with a red cup (Whoops). It‘s the pee wee of pee wees. It is the heart stopping C division.
C Division:
After losing to the undefeated Steelers, the Dirty Birds (Falcons) will have a chance to regroup and try to upset Dirk Moran and the Redskins. In their head to head match up, the game was ruled a tie. Both teams share the same exact record. This is a must win scenario as the winner, for the first time in Pee Wee history, will have a chance at being NUMERO UNO as they compete for their next playoff game! Don’t miss this, it starts at 8:30AM
B Division:
The Tuna is officially……retired? After back to back championship seasons, Milton (The Tuna), has quietly retired. Wait a minute!.......There is a new sheriff in town! The sheriff, who is one of the most decorated Pee Wee Gridiron Coaches, is now apparently coaching B and whatttttt a season! The Falcons are in first place and face the Dolphins. But as in C and in my humble opinion, the game to watch is the Sabines clan and the Redskins as they go face to face with the Steelers and the Otero’s for the second place ranking and hopefully a shot at the winner takes all final game! This game is at 11:00 AM.
A Division:
Controversies, controversies and most likely more controversies…well maybe most likely not! I’ll tell you how we are going to fix the controversies it and it’s by playing good football. Keep your opponents out of arms reach! In a close game anything will happen even the zebra’s stampede! This is a Division where everything is to close to call. Referees keep your pistols in your holsters and shoot only when you’re sure. The games between Falcons and Dolphins is a must see. The Redskins and Steelers is another must see. Games start at 11:00AM.
AA Division:
Did you feel that? What? Did you feel….the Blitzz are coming. After calming down, Coach Rafi and the Blitzz have quietly won their last two games and taken sole possession of first place. Hats off to you! They will face the Dolphins this week for a race to the championship game. Can Oscar and the Dolphins upset the mighty Blitzz….find out at 1:30PM!
These are the games to watch. Please remember….No dogs allowed or we’ll sick commissioner Mabel on you, no spirits (alcoholic beverages) allowed and no heckling the players and referees. Coaches remember to control your sideline. Coaches be good sports! The only way a rookie player gets better is to play him…..so play him!
Also, one quick reminder, after regulation play and in overtime, the defense can intercept and or grab a fumble and run it for a touchdown! Sometimes …even the defense shares the glory.
Good Luck,
The Commish!
Playoff Schedule 2010
3-15-9
Dear All:
Here is the playoff schedule for this week! For some teams, the final two weeks are included since the standings don't reset until after the season, while for others, it will change next week (Teams 1 thru 4). Please note tie breaker rule is in affect! I spoke to Paul last Saturday......THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! No games will end in a tie. If the game has ended a tie after regulation game time expires, than will play for overtime win......not the NFL STYLE but similar to COLLEGE BALL STYLE FOOTBALL. The first team will get the ball at the 10 yard line with four downs and given a chance to score. If they score, the second team is given the same opportunity to score from the 10 yard line with 4 downs. Each team is given the same amount of opportunity to score. The team that misses that opportunity will lose. Their must be a score to win (Touchdown and or field goal (A and AA)). So please practice well...A Reminder, this year, in regular season play, ties were abundant! It is the responsibility for the Area Coordinators to pass this information along! Thank you!
Tie breaker scenario:
Team A gets ball and scores-----------------6
Team B gets ball and doesn't score ----------0
Team A wins!
Team A gets ball and doesn't score-----------0
Team B gets ball and does score-------------6
Team B wins!
Team A gets ball and scores------------------6
Team B gets ball and scores------------------6
A tie----we restart and do the same opportunities until someone wins!
If you have any questions you know where to reach me!
Good luck and take care,
The Commish
